NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The Pacific Lutheran University men's track and field team completed a week of training and competing in California with the CSUN Invite on Saturday. Competing against mostly NCAA Division I competition, the Lutes won four events and finished second in seven more on the campus of California State University, Northridge.
Hezekiah Goodwin ripped off the nation's fourth-best time (1:52.60) to finish as the runner-up in the 800-meter run.
Darius Chaffin and
Grady Lemma also recorded runner-up finishes in the hurdles. Chaffin ran a 15.27 in the 110 and Lemma finished the 400 in 56.64.
Corey Solomon cleared 15' 1" to take the gold in the pole vault.
Wyatt Tayon also finished at the top of the podium in the shot put (46' 11 ½") with teammates
Masum Real and
Larson Fairbairn finishing second and third, respectively. The trio also claimed the top three spots in the discus with Fairbairn leading the pack at 145' 8". Fairbiarn, Taylon and Real went 2-3-4 in the hammer throw as well. Chaffin added a second runner-up finish in the javelin with a heave of 181' 8".
The foursome of
Aiden Yost,
Jai Alapai,
Alec Serrao and
Kellen Meade won the 4x100 relay after crossing the tape in 44.25. The Lutes also took third in the 4x400 as Alapai, Meade, Yost and Goodwin combined to finish in 3:27.09.
Next Saturday the Lutes host the PLU Invitational beginning at 10:00 a.m.
