Lutes Cap Off Senior Day with Strong Showing at the PLU Open

TACOMA, Wash. --- The Pacific Lutheran University Women's Track and Field team hosted their second event of the spring on the PLU Track, with numerous freshman placing top marks in the large meet. The Lutes also honored 13 men's and women's seniors for their contributions to the program over the past four seasons.

The Lutes got started on Friday with the Hammer throw, as Eva Wirth led the way once again and earning a personal best mark of 45.30 meters; two meters better than her previous best.

On Saturday, the Women's 400 relay took second in a field of four teams as senior Kristine Nguyen, freshman Abigail Caprye, freshman Cheyanne Hicks, and junior Allie Youngs ran a time of 53.57. Freshman D'Yhana Clemons carded the best time in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.32 seconds, good for sixth out of 17 competitors.

Caprye and freshman Madison Downey showed their best leaps in the high jump as both notched jumps of 1.52 meters, good for second place at the meet.

Freshman Kyleigh Archer finished third in the long jump with a mark of 4.81 meters, finishing behind Mock of Seattle Pacific by 0.19 meters. Archer later added the best mark in the triple jump, with a leap of 10.93 meters, over one foot father than the next best finisher.

A pair of freshman teamed up and dominated the shot put, as Alicia-Ellalynn Soliai won the event at 12.00 meters, just beating out Teulia Ilalio who threw 11.81 meters. Alicia's sister, Georjina, finished in fourth with a mark of 11.48 meters.

"Our women had another strong day of performances. Eva started the weekend off with a big PR in the hammer. Kyleigh Archer keeps improving and opened with a PR in the triple. Alicia Soliai breaking 12m in shot was great to see. I also thought Anna had a really good performance as well."

Katy Cook earned a second-place finish in the Javelin with a throw of 32.91 meters as Virginia Arthur rounded out the Lutes field events with a fourth-place finish in the Discus with 36.70 meters.

The Lutes will continue the outdoor season next weekend at the Peyton Shotwell Invitational hosted by cross-town rival, Puget Sound, on Friday and Saturday, March 22nd and 23rd.
