TACOMA, Wash. — Kyleigh Archer won the triple jump in her collegiate debut to headline the Pacific Lutheran University women's track & field team's efforts on Saturday at the University of Puget Sound's Ed Boitano Invitational to open up the outdoor season.
"It was a solid day all around," said Head Coach
Trey Henderson.
"There's still a ton of growth ahead of us and we need to be patient and disciplined to hit our potential as a team and today was a solid first step towards that."
Archer made the most of her Lute debut, winning the triple jump with a leap of 34 feet, 1 1/4 inches with teammates
Kloe Salazar finishing seventh overall (32' 2") and
Madison Downey placing eighth (31' 1 1/4").
"Kyleigh had an impressive debut and brings a great mentality to the team."
Eva Wirth was runner-up and the top Division III athlete in the hammer throw, uncorking a toss of 134' 2" while
Sandra Valmonte was third with a throw of 131' 10".
Virginia Arthur was fourth in the discus with a heave of 116' 1" with Wirth finishing sixth (108' 9") and
Alicia-Ellalynn Soliai eighth (103' 0").
Teuila Ilaio took second billing in the shot put with a heave of 39' 10 1/2" with
Alicia-Ellalynn Soliai (37' 7 1/4") and
Georjina Soliai (37' 0 1/2") finishing back-to-back in fifth and sixth overall.
Abi Caprye was the top D3 competitor and second overall in the high jump, clearing 4' 11 3/4" with
Allie Youngs and
Madison Downey tying for third (4' 6"). Finishing third in the pole vault was
Kristine Nguyen, clearing 10' 0 1/2".
On the track, the Lutes' 4x100-meter relay team of Nguyen, Caprye, Salazar and Youngs finished second overall in 54.25 seconds.
PLU finished fourth overall as a team-scoring 84 points to enjoy a 21-point edge on Division II Seattle Pacific University in fifth. Northwest Conference rival Whitworth University sat atop the standings with 138 points followed by Division II Western Washington University (92 points).
The Lutes are back in action on Friday, hosting the PLU Invitational in the first of two home meets for the program.
