AURORA, Ore. — The Pacific Lutheran University women's golf team shaved off 22 strokes in round two, logging a fifth place showing at the 2024 Northwest Conference Championships at Langdon Farms Golf Club.

The Lutes shot a 678 for the two-day tournament, finishing fifth overall and enjoying a 36-stroke lead on crosstown nemesis University of Puget Sound (357-257). PLU shot a 350 during Saturday's opening round before closing out Sunday with a 328. PLU finished just eight strokes behind fourth place Pacific University (351-319).

Abby Matelski finished ninth overall, shooting a 162. Matelski carded an 83 during Saturday's opening round before shaving off four strokes on Sunday with a 79.Â

Emily Fisher tied for 17
th with a 169 (86-83) while
Ava Edmonds was a stroke back in 20
th with a 170 (87-83).

Ariana Warren placed 30
th, carving off 17 strokes from round one to round two. Warren finished with a 183, shooting a 100 on Saturday and an 83 on Sunday.
Ashley Nguyen was 32
nd with a 185 (94-91).
"The women's team went into this championship wth three seniors competing in their last collegiate tournament. That definitely made it a bittersweet and special event," said Head Coach
Caroline Matelski.
"We held steadfast mentally as a team over both rounds and finished where we expected to in the field. The highlight of the tournament was having three of our five players in the top 20."

George Fox University won the team title, shooting a 615 (313-302). The Bruins had the top three individual finishers, including Alison Takamiya who earned medalist honors shooting a 148 (76-72). Â
