TACOMA, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University women's track & field team competed in its first outdoor meet of the season on Saturday, placing fifth in the team standings at the Ed Boitano Invitational hosted by crosstown rival University of Puget Sound.
"It was a solid first outdoor meet. It was great weather and good competition to start the season," said Head CoachÂ
Trey Henderson.
"The weekend started great with Samayia setting a big PR in the hammer. It carried over into today with the team competing well with PR's and conference qualifying marks. Overall, each of our event groups had solid outings."
Samayia White started the meet off with a bang, competing in Friday's hammer throw competition and registering a fifth place showing with a toss of 140 feet, eight inches.Â
On Saturday,
Kyleigh Archer was runner-up in the triple jump, leaping 35' 1" with teammates
Madison Downey third (34' 5") and
Jennie Brown seventh (32' 0 1/4"). Both Archer and Downey logged another top eight finish with Archer seventh in the long jump (15' 9 1/2") while Downey was seventh in the pole vault.Â
Ki Neir was fourth in the pole vault, clearing 10' 1 1/2" while three Lutes finished in the top eight of the high jump.
Abi Caprye was fourth, clearing 5' 0 1/4" followed by
Lilly Achterling in seventh (4' 10 1/4") and
Allie Youngs in eighth (4' 8 1/4"). In the javelin,
Katy Cook was fifth overall with a toss of 110' 1".
On the track, Achterling was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, stopping teh clock in 16.60 seconds with
Addisen Hering fifth in 16.64.
D'Yhana Clemons was seventh in the 100-meter dash in 13.08 while Hering and
Adalia Olmos finished back-to-back in seventh and eighth in the 400-meter hurdles. Hering finished the one-lap race in 1:14.41 with Olmos crossing the line in 1:15.61.Â
PLU also registered a third place finish in the 4x100-meter relay with a team of
Sarah Brandt, Clemons, Hering, and Archer finishing in 50.81.Â
"There's a lot more potential in the team and I'm excited to see them keep pushing towards that potential."
PLU finished fifth overall in the team standings, sandwiched between a pair of Division II schools at the 13-team meet. The Lutes accumulated 60.33 points, finishing just under 22 points shy of D2 Seattle Pacific University and owning an 11-point gap on D2 Saint Martin's University. Northwest Conference rival Whitworth University won the meet with 214 points.Â
Pacific Lutheran returns to competition next Saturday, hosting the PLU Open— the first of three on-campus home meets this spring for the program.Â
