Hering Dominates Hurdles for Women's Track & Field at UPS

TACOMA, Wash.--- The Pacific Lutheran University women's track and field team returned to competition in the Northwest Conference, as cross-town rival Puget Sound hosted their annual Peyton Shotwell Invitational; the Lutes took second as a team, finishing only behind the Loggers, but ahead of NWC foes Whitworth, Whitman, and George Fox.

The Lutes began the meet with the 4x100-meter relay race, as Addisen Hering, D'Yhana Clemons, Sarah Brandt, and Abi Caprye finished second with a time of 51.07-seconds.

Hering and Caprye returned to action again with the 100-meter hurdles, as Hering took third with a time of 15.53. Meanwhile Lily Achterling took fifth and Caprye was close behind in sixth. Hering took home the best time in the longer 400-meter hurdles, with a time of 1:07.83. Achterling also competed in the 400-meter event, taking third for the Lutes.

In the throwing events, Katy Cook chucked the furthest javelin for the Lutes on Saturday, as her throw of 35.36-meters was good for a third-place finish. Taylor Kenaston had a best of 26.64-meters to take sixth, and Eryn Astron took eighth.

Ki Neir was the best Division III finisher in the pole vault, as her leap of 3.25-meters earned the Lutes eight points for the team. Three Lutes placed in the high jump, as Abi Caprye took tied for second, also as the best DIII finisher, with a best of 1.48-meters. Sydney Sparks took fourth while Achterling earned fifth.

At the long jump, the Lutes finished 2-3-4, with Madison Downey leading the way as her 4.83-meter jump was slightly better than that of Brandt who took third. Kyleigh Archer also finished closely behind Brandt, with a jump of 4.78-meters. Archer and Downey also competed in the triple jump, with Archer taking second (10.92-meters) and Downey with third (10.81-meters).

"Today was a nice end to spring break. We had a smaller group competing but there were some good performances especially after just getting back from California two days ago." Said Head Track & Field Coach Trey Henderson

"Addisen Hering had a really strong day in the hurdles. It will be good to get back at it at home next week. Three weeks until conference and there's a lot we can still continue to get better at!"

The Lutes prepare for the PLU Spring Invitational next weekend at the PLU Track, beginning at 10 a.m.
