TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's swimming team delighted the home crowd on Saturday afternoon, winning early and often in a 161-80 dual meet victory over Northwest Conference rival George Fox University.
"It was a fun day," said Head Coach
Matt Sellman. "We had some really good swims considering where we are in our training. The kids were really excited for the first home meet and showed it. We had good energy on the deck all day and our swims reflected that."
The Lutes opened the meet with a four-second victory in the 200-yard medley relay with
Kiyomi Kishaba,
Victoria Nguyenle,
Bailey Hamilton, and
Lauren Kearney touching the wall in one minute, 52.5 seconds.
Jenna Muller and
Hannah VanHeyningen captured the top two spots in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 2:05.76 and 2:06.04, respectively. Kishaba claimed the 100-yard backstroke in 59.77 with
Whitney Mundle (1:11.57),
Reina Kim (1:12.44), and Kearney (1:14.39) going 1-2-3 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Hamilton seized the win in the 200-yard butterfly, stopping the clock in 2:19.13 while Kishaba claimed the win in the 200-yard backstroke, blowing away the field with an over 18-second win in 2:12.25. Kishaba won win her fourth event later in the meet, finishing first in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.56 with teammate
Sidney Chan-Orcutt (1:04.37) taking second billing.
Claire Cranch (2:32.10), Mundle (2:36.19), and
Tori Oshiro (2:40.35) made it a Lute sweep atop the podium in the 200-yard breaststroke before Muller and
Allie Burke went one-two in the 500-yard freestyle, logging times of 5:35.68 and 5:41.54.
Cranch logged win number two in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing in 2:15.45 with
Victoria Nguyenle placing runner-up in 2:19.37.
The Lutes capped off the dominating day with
Alex Shannon, Kearney, Chan-Orcutt, and Hamilton winning the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:43.85.
PLU is back in the pool next weekend, heading to Newberg, Oregon for the George Fox Invitational.
