FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Two more school records fell as the Pacific Lutheran University men's swimming team wrapped up the four-day Northwest Conference Championships on Sunday, finishing seventh overall at the meet held inside the King County Aquatic Center.
"We had a great night to finish off the weekend. The men really finished well with two school records today," said Head Coach Matt Sellman. "I'm so proud of how this team performed this year. We were a true team that loves each other and rose to every occasion.
Hayden Mortensen landed All-Conference laurels in the 200-yard backstroke, placing seventh in one minute, 54.49 seconds while
Jared Toschi was 13
th in 2:02.42. Toschi additionally placed 11
th in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:53.85).
Alex Johannessen was fourth in the 100-yard freestyle, stopping the clock in a school record time of 46.11 to earn All-League honors with
Ethan Trieu placing 11
th overall (47.28).
Seth Koivisto was third overall in the 200-yard breaststroke, turning in a time of 2:06.61 with teammates
Jeff Lozensky (2:14.00) and
Peter Thompson (2:15.32) placing 12
th and 14
th overall, respectively.
The Lutes saved their best for last, shattering the school record in the 400-yard freestyle relay to close out the meet. Triey, Koivisto, Mortensen, and Johannessen clocked a record setting time of 3:06.93, shaving a tenth of a second off the previous record established in 2018 to finish runner-up and earn All-Conference honors.
PLU placed sixth in the team standings, racking up 332 points over the four-day meet, enjoying a 51-point gap on seventh-place Willamette University while finishing just 16.5 points shy of fifth-place Lewis & Clark College. Whitworth University hoisted the team title at the nine-team championships, scoring 680.5 points while Linfield College took second billing (544).
PLU is back in the pool on Saturday, competing at the Logger Last Chance Meet.
