FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's swimming team closed out the 2020 Northwest Conference Championships on Sunday by placing third overall at the four-day meet held inside the King County Aquatic Center.
"We had a great night to finish off the weekend. The women swam great and put up some incredible swims. I'm so proud of how this team performed this year," said Head Coach
Matt Sellman. "We were a true team that loves each other and rose to every occasion."
Kiyomi Kishaba and
Alex Shannon headlined Sunday's efforts for the Lutes, claiming All-Conference honors in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing fifth and eighth, respectively. Kishaba hit the wall in 2:07.91 with Shannon stopping the clock in 2:12.64.
Maya Lovre was 13th in the same event, logging a time of 2:14.98 in the consolation finals.
Victoria Nguyenle placed fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:25.01 with
Whitney Mundle seventh in 2:29.13. Both Lutes earned All-Conference honors while
Tori Oshiro (2:33.27) and
Makenzie Chan-Orcutt (2:34.52) finished 12th and 14th in the consolation finals.
Claire Cranch was third in the 200-yard butterfly, logging a time of 2:08.97 and finished the meet as the NWC Rookie of the Year. Cranch logged runner-up finishes in both the 200 IM and 400 IM on Friday and Saturday.
Hannah VanHeyningen was seventh in the 1,650-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 18:29.64.
Four Lutes appeared in the consolation finals of the 100-yard freestyle with
Lauren Kearney winning the race and finishing ninth overall in 53.71.
Bailey Hamilton was 10th (53.94) while
Sidney Chan-Orcutt (55.67) and
Tess Ritcey (56.01) placed 15th and 16th, respectively.
PLU closed the meet by placing fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a team of Hamilton, Nguyenle,
Sidney Chan-Orcutt and Kearney finishing in 3:37.52.
Headlining the meet was
Bailey Hamilton who claimed the league title in the 100-yard butterfly on Saturday.
The Lutes finished third in the team standings with 502 points, owning a massive 101-point buffer on fourth place and crosstown rival University of Puget Sound. Whitman College took home the team title at the nine-team championships, scoring 718 points with Whitworth University placing second with 549 points.
The Lutes are back in the pool on Saturday, competing at the Logger Last Chance Meet.
