SEATTLE, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University track & field programs turned in a strong showing in the final regular season meet of the indoor season on Saturday night, competing at the Seattle Pacific University Final Qualifier inside the Dempsey Indoor Facility.
Bailey Forsyth, the defending national champion in the outdoor 100-meters and 200-meters, continued to dazzle, setting personal best times in both the 60-meters and 200-meters. Forsyth clocked a time of 7.74 seconds in the preliminary heats of the 60-meters and finished first overall after running a 7.78 in the finals. Forsyth later won the 200-meters in a blazing time of 24.84 seconds. The senior's 60-meter time currently ranks as the 14th fastest in Division III this season while her 200 time ranks among the top seven nationally.
Zoey Diviney was third in the 800-meters, looping the track in a PR time of 2:20.64
Julia Causbie was second in her heat of the 60, netting a PR time of 8.09 while
Lorin Cox logged a PR effort of 8.11. Both Causbie and Cox both ran the 200, finishing in 26.90 and 27.92, respectively. PLU additionally had
Esther Brutus competing in the 60-meter hurdles, logging a time of 9.76 in the finals after clocking a 9.92 to finish third in her qualifying heat.
In the field events,
Lily Luksich cleared 11 feet, 2 1/2 inches in the pole vault to place third overall.
"It was great to see Bailey better her school records in both the 60 and 200," said Head Coach
Adam Frye.
"Even better, she solidified her spot for nationals in the 200. Julia and Lorin also had nice PRs in the 60 and Zoey competed well to get a season's best in the 800."
On the men's side,
Stefans Lusis won his heat in the 3,000-meters, circling the oval in 8:52.62 for the almost four second win. Sam Zielke (9:05.88) and
Danny Samson (9:06.27) finished back-to-back in sixth and seventh in the same heat.
Logan Werner was second in his heat in the mile, clocking a time of 4:23.45 with
Trey Robak fourth in 4:31.96.
In the sprints,
Grady Lemma and
Jai Alapai finished second and third overall in the 200-meters, crossing the finish line in times of 23.00 and 23.78. Lemma additionally finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles, running an 8.88 in the prelims and a nearly identical 8.89 in the finals.
"Our guys were on fire in the 3,000! Stefans led the way with an exciting heat win and we had a train of PRs behind him. Grady and Jai had strong races to go 2-3 in the 200."
PLU begins the outdoor track & field season next weekend, making the short drive across town for the Ed Boitano Invitational hosted by the University of Puget Sound.Â
