SEATTLE, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University men's and women's track & field program brought a small contingent to the UW Preview Meet but delivered big results on Saturday, with five top 10 finishes for the Lutes at the indoor season opener.
"I thought today was a great start for us," said Head Coach
Trey Henderson.
Masum Real headlined the Lutes' efforts at Dempsey Indoor, finishing second in the shot put with a personal best heave of 51 feet, five inches. Teammate
Wyatt Tayon was sixth overall with a toss of 42' 9 ¾". In the weight throw
Larson Fairbairn was fifth overall with a chuck of 49' 3". Both Real and Fairbairn were the top finishing Division III athletes in their events.
"I'm excited with how our throwers did today. Wyatt didn't hit the mark he was hoping but showed technical growth. Larson had a solid PR in the weight and Masum throwing a big PR in the shot was phenomenal"
Dylan Jones was eighth in the pole vault, clearing 13' 5 ¼" with
Blake Leahy ninth with a vault of 12' 9 ½".
"I thought the PV crew had a strong day as well, Dylan had an impressive competition in his college debut."
On the track,
Ryan Stracke clocked a time of four minutes, 15.25 seconds in the mile while
Grady Lemma blazed to a 7.14 in the 60-meter dash.
"Grady had an impressive start to his season running a strong time in the 60 and is already showing growth from last season."

Lily Luksich cleared 11' 3" in the pole vault while
Sarah Paquet finished the 3,000-meters in 10:23.51.
